Obstacles

Lately it seems life has been consumed by work so training for the Spartan race has been put on the back burner completely. I get up at 5:30 am for work already and no amount of coffee in the world will get me out of bed any sooner than that so exercise before work is out of the question. Exercise after work has become increasingly difficult with Steven working until 8 pm - Avery has caught every single illness at day care so most evenings are spent caring for a sick toddler.

Working out has been narrowed down to my lunch/breaks at work and weekends. This weekend I hiked Camelsback, according to my FitBit I hiked the equivalent of 74 flights of stairs :) I took a nap after my hike (obviously) and woke up feeling great - it was a nice change.

But I made it :D

And carved my name in the sand stone

I had lunch with my best friend on Thursday. Kristen met me at Mongolian BBQ during my lunch break. We are both working mothers with hectic lives so it was great to just sit down without the kids and catch up. It was difficult to go back to work after lunch, I just wanted to hang out with Kristen and do girl stuff. That evening Kristen and her boyfriend, Tyler, came over to hang out :) We chatted, made double date plans, had friend debates about random things - Kristen even made us dig out the old letters that Steven and I wrote to each other while he was in basic training, talk about mushy haha.

FRIDAY!! TGIF for sure. It was Steven's day off so he took me out to lunch :) Afterwards Steven and Avery had a Daddy/Daughter day, he took her shopping for shoes and clothes. If their dates continue to include him buying her clothes and shoes then I foresee Daddy/Daughter dates to continue forever.

We went on a double date with Kristen and Tyler after work. The four of us went to Wahooz to play mini golf. I got a hole in one several times except when it really mattered, the last hole sprays you with water if you don't get a hole in one - Steven, Kristen, and I all got sprayed. After golf we hit up the batting cages, pun intended ;) I am not a fan of the batting cages, it hurt my hands, I am a delicate little flower after all. The night ended perfectly with dinner at Flying Pie Pizzeria (even typing the name made my mouth water).

Saturday was just as awesome as Friday - I had an amazing girls' day with my mom. I picked her up, we had lunch, got coffee, and I treated her to a pedicure. It was so relaxing! Steven and I went a little crazy that evening and got Avery some fish - she loves them :)

Arts and Crafts

Day lights savings was much more difficult to deal with on Monday morning. For the fourth day in a row I had a headache and threw up several times that day. I ended up leaving work early to go to the urgent care. The doctor performed a neurological exam (which I passed) and took a few vials of blood for testing. I went home after seeing the doctor and fell asleep as soon as I crawled into bed, I stayed asleep until 6:30 pm when Steven woke me up for dinner.

The rest of the work week was kind of a blur. My head ache lasted until Thursday before miraculously disappearing - I was so happy that I paid for a stranger's coffee.

Throwback Thursday

Steven and Avery took me out to lunch on Friday :) We went to Flying Pie and had amazing pizza. Going back to work after seeing my family is always tough but the visit put me in a great mood.

Our chia pet is growing!

We had lunch with Steven's family on Saturday. We met his grandparents, parents, and sister at the Capri so it was a tight fit. After eating we swapped cars with Yvette and Mike because they were baby sitting Avery that night. Steven and I went to several stores in search of good all-terrain running shoes. We didn't find shoes for Steven but we found some for me and they were on clearance! I was also spoiled with new workout clothes!! Gap Body was having a 40% off sale so I managed to snag a performance top and workout pants for super cheap :)

My new gear

Sunday was pretty awesome. The weather was gorgeous so Avery and I sat out back painting bird houses while Steven mowed the lawn.

Steven and Avery went to dinner at Steven's grandparents' house that evening. I decided to stay home and be crafty :) I made a date jar which is now full of Popsicle sticks with date night ideas on it. I get tired of the same old dinner and a movie date night so now we can pull a stick out of the jar and it has something new and fun for us to do. I also painted wooden letters to hang on the wall.

FOR SPARTA!!!

Steven did something crazy this week…he signed us up for a Spartan Race eek. We are doing the Spartan Sprint which is a muddy 3 (plus) mile obstacle course. The race is in May and in Montana so we are making it a weekend getaway :)

We are REALLY out of shape so we began training immediately but its slow going. My first day of training consisted of climbing 35 flights of stairs and Steven ran 2 miles – that doesn’t seem like a lot but for us it’s insane.

I got my first paycheck this week, it wasn’t spectacular, one month of work for me is the same as one paycheck for Steven. It was a little disheartening but it was nice being able to put away some money for our Montana trip and still having some extra spending money.

Hanging out with Avery at day care

Fridays are supposed to be awesome for the working world but at my job they call them "FML Friday" because something always goes wrong. FML stands for F*** My Life for the older folks that read this. The day started out crazy with Steven tripping down the stairs and landing on the metal baby gate at the bottom. Steven normally takes Avery to day care at 10:30 am before he starts work but I took her that day. I ended up being a few minutes late to work because of the morning madness but work was understanding since it was FML Friday. So many things went wrong that day, it was insane, I've never seen the office in such disarray. Thankfully I survived the day and got to enjoy my weekend :D

Countdown to the race in my office at work

I slept in on Saturday morning, it was so amazing! Steven was working so the day was pretty uneventful. I had a bad headache so I took an afternoon nap and didn't wake up for several hours, luckily Steven was having a slow day at work so he could watch Avery. Family dinner was at our house this week, Steven made a macaroni bake from scratch. After dinner my parents offered to take Avery overnight and we jumped at the idea. I still had a headache but popped some Tylenol and dealt with it, when someone offers to babysit you have to take full advantage. We managed to make it to a movie and saw the new 300, it was epic.

Random little chia-pet that my mom got me :)

Sunday was daylight savings, it wasn't too bothersome because Avery was with my parents. We ran some errands while we were still baby-free. My headache raged on and made it difficult to be out so we grabbed Avery and went home. I just wanted to nap but couldn't because 1. it was a Sunday and if I napped I wouldn't go to bed on time for work and 2. Steven's family was coming over for dinner. Steven's family came over that evening, my head ache was killing me so I spent the entire time hiding away in Steven's office to avoid the sound of everyone talking. I could not get to bed quick enough that night.
